Zenit MC-Helios #40-2 85mm f/1.5 lens in Canon Mount
The fast Helios 85mm renders very differently than the Zenit 85mm f/1.4 even though their max apertures are similar. The Helios 40 series lenses historically have been derivatives of the Zeiss Biotar optical formula and the new 40-2 Helios follows in that tradition. They produce an unusual "swirly" effect to the background bokeh. Lights or specular light (such as light coming through foliage) will be rendered as large circles. Quoting the Wikipedia page for Helios - "The bokeh "circles" become more elliptical in shape as you move away from the center of the photo. This optical phenomenon gives images rendered by these vintage lenses a distinct character, which has created a cult following among fine art photographers."
The new Helios lenses have a special aperture adjustment ring set up - you set the smallest aperture you wish to use with a click stop ring, then another freely turning aperture ring allows you to quickly open up the lens for easier focusing wide open.
Comes in a white box with cut out foam lens holder and magnetic closure (as shown in the picture), US warranty card, Russian warranty card and brief information sheet.
